You may haven’t heard of SCHMARGENDORF, a small, cozy, middle-class suburb close to the city center of Berlin. Sounds like the beginning of a fairy tale – and in some fashion it is one …. There in the middle of Schmargendorf lies a hidden gem, a small lovely bistrot with a charming sunshine terrace – the home of Frank Gebauer, a restless connoisseur and food fanatic.

Together with his whole family and great staff – he created one of the very best Bistros so unlike Berlin, that you will fall in love with GEBAUERS TAGESBAR on your first visit.

It’s a small place with a monthly menu: one starter, one main, one dessert and two standard alternative mains. The quality? Well imagine, you have a food crazy good friend, a great chef – and he’s inviting you to his small place in the Alpes. The atmosphere is cosy, the food utterly delightful, the company warm & committed – and the wine makes you a bit drunk with joy. Just one dish as an example of Gebauers cuisine, a CESAR SALAD like I never before experienced in Berlin: utterly fresh salad enveloped by various tiny vegetables and herbs, so that it tastes like a walk through an abundant summer garden. Light years away from the usual rubber salad with the standard greasy Cesar sauce. (If you now think too good to be true? Well I have no private or business relationship to the owner – I’m just a humble food lover …)
