London for me is the most exciting (and expensive) city trip in whole Europe. I love the hustle & bustle of architecture, history, society, posh Londoners, taxis, shops, restaurants, pubs & bars in SoHo, Covent Garden, Mayfair & Kensington! But after a long and thrilling day I have enough and just want a very calm & charming little hotel not far from the center! But that’s not easy since most hotels are big, busy and in a noisy street. (Once I stayed in SoHo and couldn’t sleep because of the pub on the other side of the street – so I had to get up and join the drunken after work party with all consequences for my next morning.)
So – no escape? Pssst! Yes, there is one exception I know: the NUMBER SIXTEEN is an incredibly beautiful & lovely townhouse and island of calm, charm, delight & relaxation. You can have your sundowner in the fairytale-like little garden, enjoy the few but delightful dishes in the tiny restaurant, close the day with an old port and a good book in the lounge and then sleep deep & happy. And the service people feel like friends. If the weather allows, I strongly recommend to have breakfast in the awakening garden.
And for those happy few gentlemen who’re looking for a convincing place to ask their beloved lady that one and only question which comes with a ring: well, at the end of the garden there’s a kind of beautiful throne and enough space for you to kneel …
