As my beloved newly opened Grand Café Einstein Mommseneck closed after a year, I was really sad. But as the successor renovated a brand new lovely place – I didn’t understand. But as I yesterday entered the BRASSERIE THÉODOR at their Grand Opening Night I DID – OH HOW MUCH I DID AND APPRECIATED THE WAIT: for my humble eyes THEODOR is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANT in Berlin (except Medinis at the China Club). Rumors whisper that the artists from BABYLON BERLIN have been involved in the interior design.Looking at the mastery of design – it may well be the case.
I started with a fresh & light Margarita and was in my thoughts at the Promenade des Anglais in Nice while I was waiting for my SALADE NIÇOISE: and still having the taste of that salad at LA PETITE MAISON / Nice (see my post) … I was a bit disappointed with what I got: it wasn’t totally off rails, but not as authentic as expected. F.E. I missed the boiled eggs and sun-dried tomato crumbles taste rather Italian than Southern French. My main CORNFED CHICKEN with FRIES & HARICOTS VERTS was very very delicious – while the TARTE AU POMMES again was a disappointment.
The service was exceptional and the drinks from the barkeeper were wonderful. The design of the long bar is the best I can recommend to the brokenhearted of Berlin. Last but not least the FRENCH BACKGROUND MUSIC is so sophisticated and far away from the schmaltzy usual hits – that it complemented the pleasure for my eyes with the pleasure for my ears … Sitting in a cool dress at the bar with a Martini and let your thoughts drift … what a lovely lovely perspective… Cheers.
